DFA undergoes a sea change -- literally -- with a fancy yacht soirée, cigars and champagne as it attempts to sail away from its mutual fund image into the world of ETFs

Having just about staunched net outflows with its embrace of ETFs, DFA is embarking on a cultural shift as it tries to figure out how to sell more, even though it's less unique than it used to be.

Are you seriously comparing hundreds of mutual funds in a wide array of equity and fixed income strategies to the S&P 500?

DFA is just the canary in the coal mine for mutual fund management companies...each looking to stuff their operations into a lower cost ETF wrapper like a fat lady trying to pry on a pair of size 6 shoes on her size 8 hoofs. The idea that their "intellectual property" is of value harkens back to days passed, and NOT coming back. There are a bunch of these firms that need to do more than just re-package their products...they need to rethink their place in the world. Unfortunately none are doing so. They will continue to leak assets.
