Blair duQuesnay, who fled the New York wirehouse scene after the financial meltdown to open an RIA in her hometown of New Orleans, will commandeer Ritholtz Wealth Management LLC's first satellite office in the Big Easy.
CEO Josh "Downtown" Brown, who also answers to The Reformed Broker, announced the hire of the 36-year-old advisor yesterday on his popular blog. See: The 25 financial advisors with the biggest online presences -- and a frank analysis of what online omnipotence does (or not) for them.
"She’s a triple threat -- a Certified Financial Planner, a Chartered Financial Analyst and an Investment Advisor Representative working directly with households and families," Brown enthused over the New York firm's newest investment advisor and financial planner.
"In addition to being an exceptional writer, industry speaker and researcher, Blair is also one of the most respected up-and-coming FAs in the industry." See: One Santa Fe woman's female-centric approach to advice is attracting clients to her iconoclastic RIA.
Being able to expand that public presence on Twitter and at speaking events made this move particularly exciting for duQuesnay. "It's not that I was trying to establish a personal brand," she says.
Graduating from the University of Georgia in Athens in 2004, duQuesnay moved to New York to do an internship with Smith Barney and then worked for UBS.
Becoming disillusioned with the wirehouse model -- "I believe the industry is set up to fail for clients," she told RIABiz in a 2012 profile -- she joined a New York RIA before returning to New Orleans. There, she co-founded an RIA geared to young professionals like herself with another wirehouse escapee. Most recently, duQuesnay was principal and chief investment officer at ThirtyNorth Investments LLC, a New Orleans-based firm with more than $152 million of AUM. In 2015, she was spotlighted as one of InvestmentNews' "40 Under 40" advisors.
"Blair and I have been friends for years and I am so excited to be adding her expertise to our team.," Brown writes. "She’s chaired her previous firm’s investment committee, created portfolio strategies and contributed to the research about the impact of women on corporate boards .... She will be based out of her new offic, in her hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana."
Ritholtz Wealth was launched in 2013 by Brown and CIO Barry Ritholtz with $100 million in assets under management. As of April, it had about $708 million of AUM, according to its ADV. See: Mystery solved: Josh Brown and Barry Ritholtz start RIA -- or is that actually where the intrigue begins.
