First-ever RIABiz Summit
Partners flock to California to finalize plans for RIABiz Directory

RIABiz is a four-person, transcontinental operation. I live in Alexandria, Va., founder Brooke Southall lives in Sausalito, web master Nevin Freeman lives in Amsterdam, and Frank Noto, sales director, lives in a lovely house in San Anselmo.
We’ve never been in the same room. Until last weekend.
I rolled out of the San Francisco International Airport to find Brooke in his Acura with his two enormous dogs, Oscar and Shadow, hanging out the back. Nevin had arrived a few hours earlier.
RIABiz works amazingly efficiently with the help of lots of Google applications and Skype. But as many virtual companies have discovered, far-flung partners need to be physically together a few times a year. Our big plans for next year necessitated the first-ever RIABiz summit.
RIABiz launches its directory today for financial advisors
Brooke, whose idea the web site was, is the best at reminding us how far we’ve come. While we had tea topped by the stroopwaffels Nevin brought from Amsterdam, we took a little time to pat ourselves on the back. Thanks to Bill Winterberg for the suggestion on how to eat these treats.
In the last month alone (October to November), our visits were up 32%, and page views up 21%. Thank you, readers. We’re glad that you value what we’re doing.

Directory Week One: The launch, the tweaks and what directory listers say about its future
Happily, we’ve got our heads above water on the financial side after only four months in business.
Now, the question is where to go from here.
Our intention has always been, first and foremost, to serve RIAs – the independents of the world carrying the highest-quality advice to customers. With that in mind, we’re in the throes of developing RIABiz Directory, with a launch date shortly after the holidays.

As the Summit winds to a close – our final day’s session in Frank’s peaceful house, with only the occasional and welcome interruption from his three girls (they make me miss my own two) we’ve got our eyes on the future after the directory. We’re evolving only as fast at the industry itself.
